Associate Professor, Slavic Languages, University of Virginia
Stanley Stepanic did his MA and Ph.D. work at the University of Virginia in the Department of Slavic Languages and Literature. He has taught first and second-year Russian, classes on Russian folklore and history, intensive language courses, Russian and East European film, and his most popular course, which is currently the most popular at UVA, is called "Dracula" and tracks the vampire from pre-Christian Slavic folklore into modern media. He has been noted by students and faculty for his innovative teaching style, which mixes factual presentations with multi-media. Recently, he has turned Dracula into an interactive course, primarily utilizing the platform Top Hat, which includes a digital, interactive textbook for students. He is currently planning on becoming an 'ambassador' for the company, bringing his book and particular application of their platform to audiences that can most benefit from it.
